Marble Easter Eggs – DIY

Marble is incredibly timeless and elegant and in my opinion will never go out of style. We already know how prominent marble is in home interiors, but lately it’s become quite trendy, making its way into the lifestyle and fashion industry as well. In 2015 I’ve seen marble on anything and everything, from office accessories, to phone cases, nails, jewelry, coffee mugs, clothing, you name it and I’m totally head over heels. Seriously, this trend is so posh, and so fabulous that doing something with marble on the blog was a must. And with Easter just a few weeks away, I tried my hand at marbling easter eggs using an unexpected yet simple nail polish technique, that promises to add a touch of on trend posh to your Easter decor.

I first saw this technique after scrolling through my instagram feed and coming across a gorgeous nail tutorial by the uber fabulous Aimee Song of songofstyle.com Of course I have yet to try marbling my nails (doing that soon) but her post totally inspired me to marble these eggs. Love!!

Supplies

4-6 boiled eggs chilled

3 of your favorite colors of nail polish (I chose Essie: blanc, after school boy blazer & Nicole: totally in the dark, because I love the classic color scheme)

1 cup of distilled water at room temp

toothpicks

shallow bowl or container preferably for crafts

paper towels or parchment

Instructions

Place a sheet of parchment or paper towels down on a solid work surface.

Pour distilled water into your shallow bowl.

NOTE When the polish is dropped into the bowl of water, it tends to dry quickly, so make sure your nail polish lids are unscrewed and ready for use so you can work quickly. Also have your boiled eggs and toothpicks nearby.

Drop one drop of nail polish color of your choice (I started with white) into the bowl of water (it will spread). Quickly repeat this step with a new color of polish placing into the center of the nail polish that initially spread (for a bullseye effect). Add your third color to the center of the last nail polish color. You can repeat this pattern by adding more drops for a more intricate design. Or move onto the next step.

Using your toothpick, quickly blend the nail polish colors within the water to create the marble effect.

Once the marble design appeals to you, dip half of your egg into the water directly over the design, then quickly remove. You will discover that the marble polish has printed onto the egg.

Set your marble egg face up to dry gently wiping away any excess water or bubbles. Repeat steps above for remaining eggs.

Make each egg unique by changing around the color patterns and designs of your polish. You can also dip the bottom and/or top half of the boiled eggs to add more dimension.

You’ll be able to tell right away if your nail polish is too dry. If you’re unable to move a toothpick through it, I recommend starting over, which is actually easy because the polish will come right out, and you can reuse your water. It took me quite a few attempts to get a design that I loved.

Once your eggs are dry you can arrange them on a pretty cake stand or in your favorite dish to display on Easter Sunday.

Because the chemicals from the polish could possibly seep through the shell of the egg, I don’t recommend eating them, but they certainly do look gorgeous.

Champagne Blush

Those of you who know me well, know how much I adore weddings. In fact, the planning of my own big day nearly 10 years ago (sigh) is much of what motivated me to start-up my blog back in 2012. Being happily married for nearly a decade now is quite amazing, but I gotta admit, I do dream of the day when my hubby and I renew our vows, which is most definitely in the plans for the very near future.

It truly has been a marvelous year to get married! We went to 4 weddings last spring and summer and I’m seriously blown by the level of gorgeousness and creativity that went into each special day. Attending so many weddings this past year, has me looking forward to 2015. I truly cannot wait to see what’s new! From bridal style and decor, to all the personalized details that I’m such a sucker for.

As you may know, nude and neutral bridesmaid dresses continue to top the list for wedding party fashions. If I were getting married tomorrow, this shade of nude would most certainly be among my favorites. There’s an incredibly chic and understated elegance about this hue that looks beautiful next to the bride in white and can be easily glammed up with the right accessories, as you will see below in my Champagne Blush NYE Bridesmaid look.

I’ve been ooh-ing and ah-ing over all things gold and sparkly and couldn’t think of a better time than a New Years Eve wedding to incorporate some glam!

Loving the idea of loose locks pulled back into a modern twist, and an embellished sheer capelet as an over-the-dress option, to cover bare bridesmaid shoulders on a chilly New Years Eve night

Simple, stacked dainty gold bangles and a gold & pearl ear jacket (swoon) from Rue Gembon, with a gold sparkled Anya Hindmarch clutch are perfect additions to the bridesmaid’s style.

And since I’m still blushing over blush tones, tying in one of the hottest colors of the season by way of sparkling heels and half-moon nails (with gold) seemed oh-so necessary.

Lastly, a pop color via the YSL berry lipstick which has been incredibly sought after for Fall/Winter 2014 to complete this festive look.

Real Parties – Ombre Minnie Mouse

On Mother’s Day weekend we celebrated my baby girl’s 2nd birthday! Ah…I can’t believe she’s officially two now! I’m still amazed at how fast she’s grown. It’s difficult to grasp and most certainly bittersweet, but I’ve loved every moment of watching her blossom and reach new milestones. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Her actual birthday fell on Mother’s Day this year (such a special gift), so we planned the Minnie Mouse festivities for the day prior. It was a quaint little party, with tons of pink, and ombre accents, but not too over the top in terms of character details. Definitely more subtle and understated, but just perfect for our sweet mimi.

Decorations included everything from hand-made tassel garland, made with white tissue paper and minnie inspired letter prints in different shades of pink. A simple DIY pink ombre glittered #2, a banner of bows to capture the bowtique feel, glittered mouse and bow confetti, a dress up station with headbands and jewelry and plenty of balloons.

I made the floral arrangements using roses in 3 shades of pink and white from Trader Joes, carnations also in 3 shades of pink, and all white hydrangea. I finished each arrangement with Minnie prints, which I attached to wood skewers.

All of our lunch plates were adorned with the most adorable minnie mouse ears, which I was delighted to find via a free printable from Chickabug! Visit Heather’s shop for fabulous prints and paper designs for your upcoming celebrations. Seriously…how cute are these?! Just cut them out, attach with tape and you’ve got ears! I would recommend printing them on a thicker quality paper.

We kept the menu simple, serving barbecue, teriyaki wings, a fresh quinoa salad, my mom’s famous potato salad and many of my daughter’s favorite things…chicken sausage, olives and fresh fruit and veggies cut into mouse shapes, using a minnie mouse cookie cutter.

The beverage station featured my homemade watermelon lemonade, and sparkling berry lemonade from Trader Joes. Mix-ins included: Perrier, fresh lemons, mint and raspberries.

For dessert I made gluten-free and dairy-free cupcakes with vegan icing so they were suitable for my daughter who has a dairy and soy intolerance. I actually bought the cake mix (Bobs Redmill) but made one batch of cupcakes and the vegan buttercream homemade, using freeze dried raspberries and strawberries to color and flavor the icing. I topped the cupcakes with royal iced sugar cookie rounds that I cut using a shot glass to mimic the mouse ears, and used a shaped mold to make colored bows out of white chocolate with a little gel food coloring in two different shades to finish each cupcake. The white chocolate bows were the only component that weren’t dairy free.

On the dessert table were the Minnie Mouse cupcakes, as well as colored jelly bellys, 3 shades of sixlets, pink ribbon candy and strawberry popcorn. I also made sugar cookies with royal icing which were decorated with the help of my dear sister and good friend the night before! Thanks so much fabulous ladies!

The birthday girl’s mini cake was made using the same technique as the cupcakes. I baked 1 cake and cut out 4 rounds using a water-glass. Stacked them, and then my hubby iced them with two different colors of vegan buttercream for the ombre effect. I topped the mini cake with homemade bunting made from minnie inspired prints, ribbon and paper straws, which can be found in the Etsy shop!

Ring Pop Party Favors – DIY

One of my best girlfriend’s was in town from New York a few weeks ago and completely unaware of a top-secret bachelorette party myself and the rest of the girls from her wedding party had been planning! We prepared for her final fling over the course of a few weeks and the entire night couldn’t have turned out better! Many personalized details were added to celebrate the Mrs to be, which included the Ring Pop party favors I made for all of the girls that attended. You may remember this sweet candy bling the most from days of your childhood, but they’ve recently become quite trendy for wedding gifts, bridesmaid invitations and party favors.

As you will see below, they easily transform from childhood treat into the perfect party favor or parting gift. Even better, they’re simple to create and affordable too!

DIY Ring Pop Party Favors

Supplies

Ring pops in your choice of color.

Showcase packaging containers which can be found in my Etsy shop.

Ribbon of choice cut into 8 inch pieces.

Small cellophane bags.

8 inch pieces of bakers twine.

labels for the top of each container (optional).

mini paper clips (+ glitter and glue).

paper name tags (these can be handmade in Word or Photoshop, or even store-bought)

Instructions

Remove ring pops from packaging.

Open each showcase container and insert ring pop on an angle until secured.

Seal by placing the lid back on the bottom.

Wrap 8 inch piece of ribbon around the bottom portion of the showcase container where the black lid, meets the acrylic container.

Next, place one label in the top center of each container. I made mine specifically using the verbiage “he put a ring on it” with a few extra embellishments to emulate the bling.

After you’ve placed the ring pop in the container, wrapped in ribbon and labeled, insert each Ring Pop container into 1 small cellophane bag.

Tie the cellophane wrapped candy gift with one piece of bakers twine in your choice of color.

Write or print a name on each name tag, then hole punch (if not already done) and tie to each piece of bakers twine.

Finish with one glittered mini clothespin (optional).

To create the mini glittered clothespins, simply paint the full top side of each clothespin with craft glue, and dredge in colored glitter of your choice. Allow an hour to dry.

The favors for my girlfriend’s celebration were personalized to match the color scheme of her upcoming Summer Wedding. She has chosen shades of navy and grey, so I made sure to incorporate those details into the final packaging.

These certainly added a special touch of posh to our evening and didn’t disappoint! Can’t wait until I have the chance to make them again!

New, Green & Posh

One of the projects I’ve been working on for what seems like months now, is updating my Etsy shop with new products. This has been a long time in the making, as my girls and my family always come first, but after many long nights and early mornings, I’m thrilled to share with you the latest additions to my shop in the form of Posh sprinkles. Considering that I’m already selling specialty baking products, this seemed like the natural progression, but these aren’t just your ordinary sprinkles! I’ve created them in trendy colors and special packaging ideal for simple and modern storage solutions, as you will see below!

Just a few weeks ago I proclaimed to you my love for Hemlock Green from the Pantone color report for Spring 2014, so my most recent collection of sprinkles comes to you in shades inspired by this warm and inviting hue, which will most certainly add a touch of posh to your Spring sweets and treats! And with St. Patrick’s Day coming up on Monday, no time like the present for the reveal.

Birthday-gram

Last week I welcomed another birthday and although 1 year older, I feel grateful for the gifts and blessings that have come my way. There are simply too many to count and mention here, so instead I’ll just share with you some of the highlights of the celebration, that I enjoyed with my dear family and friends.

A birthday for me just wouldn’t be complete without macarons! I just love them…maybe too much! But since we don’t live close to any bakery that makes them, my hubby sent for some from Dana’s Bakery. Let me just say that I couldn’t have been more excited when they arrived at my doorstep! And the flavors like birthday cake, pumpkin pie, thin mint, s’mores, pecan pie and chocolate chip cookie dough, meant there was no way to go wrong.

A macaron is the perfect birthday treat for me! My hubby even wedged a single candle into one and him and my girls sang to me. Melted my heart.

I also got the gift of a new rose gold timepiece by Michael Kors, some of my favorite bath products from Philosophy, and a pair of sexy black heels by Louise Et Cie, because every girl should own a pair of heels that makes her feel just that!

I enjoyed some much needed pampering and got my nails painted in the trendy fall hue of oxblood, and then celebrated with sweet treats, champagne and my favorite girls at the cutest little gem of a bakery in my home town. I also got the most gorgeous bouquet of flowers as you can see above, from a girlfriend I have known for nearly 20 years.

Not seen here was the afternoon date I got to enjoy with my husband while my mom looked after the girls. The image of me in “all black everything” was from our date together which consisted of brunch at a local southern spot, featuring the most incredible fried okra and Caesars, followed by a stroll around downtown and then lastly a visit to Trader Joes. Ha!! The last of our date was more about how much we could get accomplished while the girls were with grandma, but sometimes it isn’t about what you do, but who you do it with.

Who else has a November birthday?? Scorpio season!

Black + White Halloween

Halloween is one week away, can you believe it? Do you have anything fabulous planned? This holiday is reserved for my girls, so no major party plans on my end. Instead I’ll be spending my evening trekking the streets with Rapunzel and the cutest kitty cat you ever did see! But, if you’re in need of inspiration for a last-minute Halloween party you’ve come to the right place!

Right now I just happen to be obsessed B&W so it felt right to create a board revolving around both. Especially for Halloween! The black seen throughout offers some chic with a bit of a spooky edge that you look for with this type of holiday, while the white adds a touch of clean and modern. When paired together they are nothing short of spooktacular!

Not only is black and white trendy at the moment, but it’s also timeless, meaning you could use this color scheme time and time again and never go wrong. Especially in the months of Fall and Winter, when the weather gets cold.

Posh Party Tips

Consider an upscale evening cocktail party with your closest friends.

Send out your invites via email, or you can even hand deliver.

Choose a color scheme of black and white, the most sought after shades of the fall season.

Decorate simply but with statement making fabric for table linens.

I love the look of an all white pumpkin. If you can’t find them locally you can always break out the paint, like I did here!

One of the things I’m currently obsessing over is cake stand. They are so pretty to look at! Mix and match, or stack atop each other for a gorgeous dessert display.

Pour. Champagne and sparkling wine is one of my favorite ways to kick off a party. Line the rims in black and white sanding sugar for a touch of sweet and serve in memorable stemware as seen above. The Crystal Head Vodka could be used as a centerpiece on its own. Such a stunning bottle which I’m sure would also make a mean martini (sorry for the bad pun.) And don’t forget the paper straws! A party isn’t complete these days without them! The specific ones seen above can be found in my Etsy shop.

Sweets. If you’re short on time, dress up bakery bought cupcakes with a simple topper and an additional cupcake liner for a layered look. You can really serve anything black and white to tie in your theme, from dipped oreos, and black and white macarons, to licorice wheels and gumdrops..oh my!
