Real Parties: Hello Kitty Lemonade

Happy Friday all! It’s been a nonstop few weeks for me but I’ve finally had a bit of down time, and the opportunity to edit photos from my daughter’s 5th birthday party. My sweet girl has had her heart set on a Hello Kitty party for the last 5-6 months, but to make it a little more summery we tied in the Lemonade theme for an sweet sunshiny twist.

Our party location this year was completely different from any of the parties I’ve done for her in the past, at a local water park, which the kids absolutely loved. It was quite an experience to get everything transferred and setup under such a short time-frame but it all came together beautifully and just in time!

I began with the invitations.

Then 1 month before the party, started gathering all of my supplies for the celebration. I’ve got a good amount of odds and ends on hand from previous parties that I’ve done, so it was nice to be able to  re-use! Such a great way to save money!

For most of my character parties, I choose to keep the details a bit more subtle. I usually start with a white backdrop because I love having a blank canvas to work with. I tie in my colors from there. We went with a pink and yellow scheme, with Hello Kitty hand printed designs throughout. I put an emphasis on hello kitty’s silhouette and bow and centered the prints around those 2 components. Everything from the invitations, to the bunting for the dessert table, lemonade stand and cupcake toppers and labels were all created and printed in photoshop using these details.

I’m kind of obsessed with oversized balloons these days as I love the look and feel they add to a parties, so I made sure to incorporate those in pink, yellow and white, along with a few Hello Kitty character balloons. We had plenty of mismatched mason jars that I filled with loose stem blooms in shades of yellow and white for a bit of a shabby feel. Many of the flowers I was able to use from my Mother-in-laws garden. Another great money saver!

The kids had their own table in the center of the room with color coordinating placemats and a favor bag filled with themed goodies.

We chose to keep the menu as simple as possible but still a bit gourmet. We had a build your own sandwich station with plenty of options to choose from and my mom made her homemade fried chicken. We served it all alongside fresh fruit, side salads, and fresh chips and crackers with dips and antipasto.

We had a designated location for homemade lemonade which I made by hand squeezing what I think ended up being nearly 40 lemons with homemade simply syrup and purified water. We had mix-ins for the kids – fresh fruit puree’s and for the adults–homemade lavender syrup, rosemary and mint, in addition to other assorted beverages.

For dessert:

We served homemade lemon sugar cookies with royal icing, shaped like lemons, hello kitty’s face and hello kitty’s bow. I’ll have the lemon cookie cutters available for purchase in the etsy shop within the next week!

The cookies were decorated with the assistance of my two lovely sisters! I also made homemade lemon bars using the recipe I found on Bakers Royale which turned out amazing! I highly recommend the recipe. I chose to make the crust dairy free and they were still so great…definitely worth trying!

Cupcakes were homemade with a strawberry lemonade buttercream frosting. Each cupcake was lined with a Paper Eskimo baking cup and then garnished with a pink paper straw and a quartered strawberry for a finishing touch! They turned out so pretty!

In addition to the desserts, we had fresh lemon jelly wedges, yellow and pink sixlets and lemon drops displayed for our guests to enjoy. The candy was displayed in vintage milk glass dishes, miniature wood crates from Michael’s and mason jars.

We finished the party with pin the bow on hello kitty and gift opening. All of the kids seemed to have a great time and after the party was over, my daughter came to me and my hubby and told us that it was the best day she’s ever had!

Ahh, I so love these moments, and the fact that she’ll have the memories to look back on for a lifetime. It is truly a blessing to have such special daughters. They are my main source of inspiration and the reason I do all that I do. Seeing them happy is what life is all about.

Hello Kitty Lemonade

Oh to be 5 years old! I remember that age growing up so well. When the days were complete with popsicles and bike rides, neighborhood friends and summer’s that felt like they lasted a year long. Do you remember those days? When we had not a care in the world? If only summer’s could last and feel the same now….I would seriously be in heaven!! But as much as I long for that slow down, time just keeps on ticking. Now I can hardly believe we’re only one month from my love’s 5th birthday! Let the party planning begin!

My sweet girl has had Hello Kitty party on her wish list since last year, but this won’t be just any Hello Kitty party. We’ll be adding in many summer vibes, in shades of lemony yellow for a Hello Kitty Lemonade theme. Fitting for the season, fresh and sunny with plenty of hello kitty accents and of course some homemade lemonade too!

Sounds like summer to me!

Here’s what’s inspiring me right now!

Ombre Minnie Mouse – sneak peek

Hoping you all had a fabulous Mother’s Day weekend! We celebrated our youngest daughter’s 2nd birthday on Saturday and had such a wonderful time with close friends and family! I had intended on posting and sharing some sneak peeks of the party prep sooner, but ran short on time. That seems to be the story of my life these days, but better late than never I suppose!

Here’s a quick look at the photos shared on Instagram from the days leading up to the party.

Celebrate – Strawberry Shortcake 4th Birthday

A few weeks ago we celebrated our daughter’s 4th birthday! Strawberry Shortcake was the theme of choice this year and I had a fabulous time pulling all the details together. What a perfect celebration it was! My family traveled from near and far and great friends joined us for good laughs, delicious food and a very special surprise for the birthday girl! Let’s just say the party was berry berry sweet!

Here’s a look at the invitation that we sent to all of our guests! This is what set the tone for the celebration’s decor and party details. I made it using Photoshop along with all of the other labels, prints, banners, and decorative designs.

I thought it would be an adorable idea to create a miniature berry stand out of gummy candy, for all of our guests to enjoy. I knew I needed a stand, but was not sure where to find one. I lucked out when I discovered that Ikea was carrying the sweetest cardboard lemonade play sets. It couldn’t have been more perfect, color scheme and all! And it only cost $12.99. The addition of handmade prints, scoops, wood boxes and assorted fruit gummies helped tie the entire concept together.

A closer look at the labels, bunting and banners I created for the celebration. I used many doily and lace style patterns to tie in the overall picnic chic strawberry theme.

The party favors were made using fruit berry baskets. Each basket included a photographed image of either Strawberry Shortcake (for the girls) or Huckleberry Pie (for the boys), along with rings, sunglasses, bracelets and more.

I used a  mix of roses, carnations, daisies and mums to create the floral arrangements. Each  was placed in a mix and match mason jar and decorated with paper label tags that were attached to wood skewers.

I went with an all white color scheme for the dessert table and tied in reds and pinks though the flowers, treats and prints. The lace, milk glass, mason jars, mix and match stacked cake stands which displayed the homemade mini strawberry shortcake were fitting. Additional details included washi tape wrapped wood cutlery and cute gingham napkins in pink from Ikea.

The kids enjoyed playing our “pin the strawberry” game!

All of the food was made homemade by me and my mom. Our menu was picnic style with plenty of salads, my mom’s amazing fried chicken, assorted appetizers, veggies, fruits, breads, bbq and more. We served pb&j triangles and organic strawberry applesauce from trader joes to the kids.

Beverages included a homemade Sparkling Strawberry Punch with garnishes + mint and strawberry infused waters, sparkling water and spirits.

We added character prints to the paper straws as seen in the photo below. The paper straws are available in my Etsy Shop!

I wrapped the tops of the wood cutlery in pretty washi tape for a decorative touch and placed them in twine wrapped mason jars for display.

The glass bottles for the infused water came from Ikea. I added chalkboard signs to each to tie in our theme.

I made the cake homemade and dairy free, using strawberry puree and a strawberry swiss meringue buttercream. It was a little dense, but still delicious! We wanted to keep it simple and rustic and felt like it turned out perfect!. The bunting was made in Photoshop and I used paper straws currently available in my Etsy Shop to tie it together.

Strawberry Shortcake Party sneak peek

You may be wondering what happened to the party related posts that I promised to share with you last week? Well unfortunately there were no posts because I became very ill with a flu bug and was unable to do anything party related until the day before the celebration. Talk about bad timing!! Luckily I was able to rely heavily on my hubby, mom, sisters and bestie to get everything accomplished and thankfully for them, my daughter had the best day, complete with some extra special details. I did take plenty of photos which I plan to share with you soon, but in the meantime here’s a sneak peek of her special Strawberry Shortcake 4th birthday, captured via Instagram.

Strawberry Shortcake - sneakThe cookies were decorated with the help of both my sisters and best friend, the dessert table was setup with mix and match glassware, lace and floral accents. I hand designed all bunting, labels, and banners. We got a special surprise visit from the cutest vintage style Ice cream truck! Everyone enjoyed the gummy candy berry stand, sweet party favors, lunch menu, homemade cake and more!

I have so much more to share with you relating to the celebration, but this will take me a little bit of time considering that I’m still under the weather and have family in town. After a visit to my dr earlier and a dose of antibiotics, I’m hoping that be fully better and back on my regular blogging schedule by next week!

Until then, I appreciate you reading and I hope you stop back by again soon.
