Real Parties – Ombre Minnie Mouse

On Mother’s Day weekend we celebrated my baby girl’s 2nd birthday! Ah…I can’t believe she’s officially two now! I’m still amazed at how fast she’s grown. It’s difficult to grasp and most certainly bittersweet, but I’ve loved every moment of watching her blossom and reach new milestones. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Her actual birthday fell on Mother’s Day this year (such a special gift), so we planned the Minnie Mouse festivities for the day prior. It was a quaint little party, with tons of pink, and ombre accents, but not too over the top in terms of character details. Definitely more subtle and understated, but just perfect for our sweet mimi.

Decorations included everything from hand-made tassel garland, made with white tissue paper and minnie inspired letter prints in different shades of pink. A simple DIY pink ombre glittered #2, a banner of bows to capture the bowtique feel, glittered mouse and bow confetti, a dress up station with headbands and jewelry and plenty of balloons.

I made the floral arrangements using roses in 3 shades of pink and white from Trader Joes, carnations also in 3 shades of pink, and all white hydrangea. I finished each arrangement with Minnie prints, which I attached to wood skewers.

All of our lunch plates were adorned with the most adorable minnie mouse ears, which I was delighted to find via a free printable from Chickabug! Visit Heather’s shop for fabulous prints and paper designs for your upcoming celebrations. Seriously…how cute are these?! Just cut them out, attach with tape and you’ve got ears! I would recommend printing them on a thicker quality paper.

We kept the menu simple, serving barbecue, teriyaki wings, a fresh quinoa salad, my mom’s famous potato salad and many of my daughter’s favorite things…chicken sausage, olives and fresh fruit and veggies cut into mouse shapes, using a minnie mouse cookie cutter.

The beverage station featured my homemade watermelon lemonade, and sparkling berry lemonade from Trader Joes. Mix-ins included: Perrier, fresh lemons, mint and raspberries.

For dessert I made gluten-free and dairy-free cupcakes with vegan icing so they were suitable for my daughter who has a dairy and soy intolerance. I actually bought the cake mix (Bobs Redmill) but made one batch of cupcakes and the vegan buttercream homemade, using freeze dried raspberries and strawberries to color and flavor the icing. I topped the cupcakes with royal iced sugar cookie rounds that I cut using a shot glass to mimic the mouse ears, and used a shaped mold to make colored bows out of white chocolate with a little gel food coloring in two different shades to finish each cupcake. The white chocolate bows were the only component that weren’t dairy free.

On the dessert table were the Minnie Mouse cupcakes, as well as colored jelly bellys, 3 shades of sixlets, pink ribbon candy and strawberry popcorn. I also made sugar cookies with royal icing which were decorated with the help of my dear sister and good friend the night before! Thanks so much fabulous ladies!

The birthday girl’s mini cake was made using the same technique as the cupcakes. I baked 1 cake and cut out 4 rounds using a water-glass. Stacked them, and then my hubby iced them with two different colors of vegan buttercream for the ombre effect. I topped the mini cake with homemade bunting made from minnie inspired prints, ribbon and paper straws, which can be found in the Etsy shop!

Ombre Minnie Mouse – sneak peek

Hoping you all had a fabulous Mother’s Day weekend! We celebrated our youngest daughter’s 2nd birthday on Saturday and had such a wonderful time with close friends and family! I had intended on posting and sharing some sneak peeks of the party prep sooner, but ran short on time. That seems to be the story of my life these days, but better late than never I suppose!

Here’s a quick look at the photos shared on Instagram from the days leading up to the party.

Minnie Invites

I took another unintentional break from blogging, but it was again much-needed. In addition to attempting to plan my daughter’s 2nd birthday, and just life in general, my big brother was married last weekend and I had family in town and my sister staying with me for a full week. I see her so little that I decided to put things on hold to spend some necessary quality time with her and the rest of my family over Easter. It couldn’t have been better.

Now that I’m back at it, I’ve got just two weeks to get my daughter’s 2nd birthday prepared…I’m keeping things quite a bit more low-key this go around and feeling really good that I’ve gotten the most important part out of the way, the invitations, which I made in photoshop, using one of my favorite B&W  images from my daughter’s 2nd birthday shoot. I used the fitting walt disney print in 3 shades of pink for the ombre effect and added minnie’s bow, for the “bowtique” feel her celebration will have.

Of course I changed the verbiage a little bit to share the online sample, but this gives you a feel for the design. Another image from my instagram displays the pink envelopes and pearl embellishments that finished off each of the invitations.

I’ll have much more relating to my daughter’s 2nd birthday including some of the images from her birthday photoshoot to share with you soon. Thanks as always for reading and visiting even during the quiet moments here on Posh. I appreciate you all!

Ombre Minnie Mouse

As we enter Spring, I ask myself where has the time gone? Although I’m thrilled for the new season’s arrival, I find my self wishing there were not only more hours in the day, but that my girls would stop growing so fast…(sigh) It feels like just yesterday that we brought our youngest home from the hospital and I can’t believe she’ll actually be turning 2 in less than two months. Eeek! That means a very special party for a very sweet and always smiling 22 month old will be taking place soon, and so surprise what theme she chose! She’s all the sudden grown very fond of minnie mouse, which is actually funny because when my oldest turned two, she wanted a minnie mouse party as well! So…..Minnie Mouse it is! But, not your typical Minnie Mouse party. I’ll be adding some unique touches to make this one extra sweet and chic! And now that the clock is ticking, no time like the present to begin the planning process, starting of course with some posh inspiration to get the ball rolling.

Here’s what’s inspiring me right now. It’s all about the ombre!!

Ombre Minnie Mouse | Posh Little Designs

Shades of pink, with many hints of minnie mouse throughout. From colored balloons to baking cups, to sweet treats and floral arrangements all within the color story. Keeping the hues super light and airy this time around. I don’t plan to use a lot of black like a typical minnie mouse party, but there’s nothing typical about my almost 2 year old, so this will suit her perfectly!

I’ll be sharing many of the DIY projects and details I create for her Ombre Minnie Mouse party over the next several weeks. Now onto the invitations, party decor and menu planning. I’ll have much more to post soon.

On another note, temps actually made it to the 60s today! Can’t wait to get some work done in my garden and begin spending more time outdoors in the sunshine! Happy Spring!! How have you spent your first few days of the new season?

Create – Paint and Glitter Mini Pumpkins

These past few days I’ve been busy prepping and getting things ready for the Mammogram Party I’m a vendor for on Friday. I’ll be selling many of my pink ribbon products and other party supplies in shades of pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness, with a portion of proceeds going towards the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

I’ve also been working on a few DIY crafts that will be on display in my vendor space, like these darling mini pumpkins that underwent a very pink makeover. Inspired by Breast Cancer Awareness and the month of October, just 3 shades of paint, and some glitter was all it took to transform these cuties from plain to posh!

Paint & Glitter Pumpkins - DIY by PLD

As you can see, the pumpkins are sporting Martha Stewart Acrylic Paint and iridescent glitter. I’m obsessed with her colors! Maybe because of some of the names like Raspberry Ice and Poodle Skirt, Jelly Bean and Cotton Candy. Let’s just say I had a bit of a field day at Michaels.

Here’s what you’ll need!

Paint & Glitter Mini Pumpkins – DIY

Supplies

3-6 Miniature pumpkins.

1 medium and 1 small paint brush.

Multi surface acrylic craft paint in 3 colors of your choice. I chose shades of pink for a bit of an ombre effect.

Craft Glue.

Glitter.

Newspaper or scratch paper.

Painters tray or old container.

Marthat Stewart Paint

Instructions

Wipe pumpkins down with a damp cloth to remove excess dirt.

Squeeze a small amount paint onto tray and begin painting your pumpkin. Paint as much of the pumpkin as you can see visibly then allow to dry (about 15-20 minutes). Once the top of the pumpkin is mostly dry, flip it stem side down and paint the bottom. Allow the bottom of the pumpkin to dry and then repeat these steps painting 2-3 more coats until your pumpkin is evenly coated. Set aside to dry.

Continue painting as many pumpkins as your heart desires, following the  steps above.

It helps to use the same brush strokes in a downward motion so the pumpkins have an even finish.

Desktop330

Allow 24 hours for the pumpkins to dry, and they’re ready for their final accessory, the glittered stems!!

Martha Stewart Craft Supply

For the stems, dip your small paint brush in craft glue.

Simply coat the stems with the glue making sure not to get any on the pumpkin skin itself.

Dust in your favorite shade of glitter until fully coated.

Flip pumpkin upside down over a sheet of paper and gently tap the bottom to remove any excess glitter.

Allow 1 more hour for the stems to dry and your pumpkins are ready for display!

If you’re throwing a Breast Cancer Awareness themed event or have a fundraiser coming up, these will add a fun touch to your party decor!

Paint & Glitter Pumpkins

posh little tip

You can really paint these pumpkins in any color that you choose, your options are limitless. Black would be fabulous, as would metallics. Great party activity for kids!

“Kiss Me I’m Irish” ~ Peppermint White Chocolate Kisses

Today I made these adorable Peppermint White Chocolate ‘Kisses’, using St. Patrick’s Day and the term “Kiss Me I’m Irish” as my form of inspiration.

To add a posh dimension, I used an ombre color scheme, which is a trend that I absolutely love right now.  The shaded affect offers a unique element, which as you can see, looks beautiful when displayed.

And the best part of all…(other than eating them of course) is that they only require 3 ingredients to make! So simple.

Peppermint White Chocolate Kisses

Ingredients/Supplies~

1. Natural Peppermint Oil

2. 2  boxes Baker’s Premium White Chocolate Squares (10 squares total.)

3. Green Food Coloring.

Parchment Paper.

5 sandwich ziplocks.

Directions~

Line cookie sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

Heat 10 squares of white chocolate in double boiler or in microwave for 30 second intervals until melted.

Add in 1/4 tsp peppermint oil and stir well (you can always add more if you like a stronger peppermint flavor.)

Divide the chocolate between 5 small bowls.

For ombre shades:

Leave the first bowl of divided chocolate white. Add 1/2 a drop of green food coloring to the second bowl. Add 2 drops of food coloring to the third bowl. Add 4 drops of food coloring to the fourth bowl and 8 drops of food coloring to the *5th bowl.

Stir well until food coloring is completely incorporated.

*You may notice the chocolate beginning to seize up a bit on the 5th bowl however this is ok because it should end up being the exact consistency that you’ll need the chocolate at when you pipe the kisses.

Other than bowl number 5, you will want to let your chocolate cool for about 10 minutes so it is the proper consistency for piping.

Once cooled and thickened a bit, spoon each bowl of shaded chocolate into the corner of a ziplock bag.

Snip the corner of the bag with scissors and begin piping the chocolate onto parchment paper using a circular motion to form each kiss. Repeat for all 5 bowls.

Place in fridge immediately to harden for at least 1 hour.

These are best served chilled.

Enjoy!
