Make: Superbowl XLVIII Sangria

Before I get to today’s post, how many of you tuned in to the NFC championship game? Well, being that I’m a native Washington girl, of course I was reppin’ my team, with a 12th Man Mojito in hand. They ended up being quite the lucky cocktail for the afternoon, considering that the Hawks pulled off a win with just a few seconds left in the 4th quarter. Whether you’re a fan of the hawks or not, and whether you agree or not, they are deserving of their spot in the Superbowl! Statistically, they’re one of the best teams of 2013 and I’m thrilled that they made it! I’m also thrilled that they’re going up against the Broncos, because I like them as well! Not quite as much as the Seahawks, but honestly I couldn’t see it any other way! The Broncos have an incredible offense and that paired with the top defense in the league means we’re in for a fantastic game!

I’ll be hosting a very quaint Superbowl party at my home this Sunday and one of the drinks on the menu is a light and refreshing sangria which I’ve appropriately titled Superbowl XLVIII Sangria. I’m a big fan of the recipe because it’s simple and I can make it ahead of time, with easy refill options as the day goes on. This Sangria is also wonderful because it’s very versatile. Of course, I’m a Seahawks fan so the version I’m sharing with you today includes fruit in a blue and green color scheme, topped off with Wild Lime Soda DRY Soda….you know, the less sweet all natural soda that just happens to be my favorite, and is also local to Seattle. What a fitting way to represent our team this Sunday!

Superbowl score!

This recipe is ideal for those non beer drinking Seahawks fans like myself. Light and refreshing with subtle sweet and tartness. The addition of blueberries and fresh honeydew melon matches the color scheme of our team, and the football cutout shapes add a touch of whimsy making this beverage a fabulous option for your Superbowl Party! The local soda from DRY adds a tasty finishing touch!

Feel free to switch out the fruit to match the team you’re cheering for. For example cheering for the Broncos? Use Oranges and Blueberries.

1/4 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice.

4 key limes. Slice two into rounds, and 2 into quarters for the drink’s garnish.

1/4 of a honeydew melon cut into 1” rounds and then cut into football shapes using a mini football cookie cutter (optional)

1 cup fresh blueberries washed.

1 bottle of your favorite Riesling or Chardonnay. Use Riesling if you like your beverages a little sweet.

1/2 cup Cointreau.

2 bottles Wild Lime DRY Soda chilled.

Place lemon juice, and sliced limes in the bottom of a large pitcher and stir together, muddling the limes a bit to release their juices.

Add in remaining fruit and stir.

Pour in the full bottle of wine, and Cointreau. Stir and place in the fridge for about 2 hours.

Add chilled soda right before serving!

Serve over ice and enjoy

While searching for a glass to serve this beverage in, I came across some Heritage Collection Ball Mason Jars which just happened to be in blue!

Vintage Blue Mason Jars

What a great way to tie in the Hawks color scheme. I chose to use mason jars instead of wine glasses because I felt like they fit better with the Superbowl theme, but feel free to serve this cocktail in any glass that you’d like!

You can garnish with green paper straws, quartered limes and fresh blueberries. The straws can be found in my Etsy shop. The Seahawks logo was attached using stickers that I found online.

Do you have plans for the Superbowl? A few months back I predicted that both the Hawks and the Broncos would go all the way and since I’m a fan of both teams, I’m excited to see how it all plays out! Of course, I’ll be cheering for my Hawks and I’m hoping this cocktail is just as lucky as my last one! Today while at the grocery store to get items for Sunday, I attempted to pickup some bags of skittles in honor of Marshawn Lynch and they were completely sold out of the original flavor. I guess that just shows you how serious the 12th man fans are!

New Happenings

The Seahawks are going to the Superbowl, and Valentine’s day is nearing, and I have yet to post about either topic. This is because I’ve been incredibly busy in life, and with PLD lately. Right now I’m working on launching new products for the shop, as well as planning and prepping for a few upcoming events happening in the next few months. The first is a sponsorship for a West Elm Event in Orlando hosted by Sarah the DIY and Lifestyle Blogger from Sarahhearts. The event happening February 6th is called Meet+Makewhere guests will enjoy a fun evening, creating Valentine’s themed artwork and crafts.

Here’s a look at the product my company will be supplying for each of the attendee’s swag bags.

Make: 12th Man Mojito

I know this may sound crazy to some, but I LOVE football! If you’ve only been following me on Posh for a short period of time, I’m sure this isn’t what you’d expect from a girl who writes about all things sweet and chic, but it’s true! I’ve been an avid fan since before my hubby and I got married and every Sunday, we enjoy watching all the games together as a family. Since I’m local to Washington State, of course the Seahawks are my team and you have to admit they deserve some recognition this year! Breaking records, going 13 and 3, home field advantage and the NFL division championship game, yes finally some love for the Pacific NW!

And since the Mayor of Seattle has declared the Friday before each hawks game, “Blue Friday”, and about 90% of the State of Washington is already in celebration mode, I’ve got the perfect cocktail to complete your weekend of football fun. This bevvy is inspired by the Hawks colors, in shades of blue and green and features a homemade Blueberry infused Rum (yummy!), fresh mint leaves, lime juice and raw sugar. Oh yes, it’s a true winner…. just like our hawks!

12th Man Mojito - by PLD

In honor of our Seahawks, and the fans, I’ve appropriately named this cocktail after the “12th Man” (aka Seahawks fans,) Mojito. The blueberry infused rum adds a subtle twist of fruit and a touch color to tie in the Seahawks hues.

Fun fact: The fans in the hawks stadium are known to be the loudest in the entire NFL, causing multiple false starts and making Century Link field one of the most difficult stadiums in the league to play at. They recently registered a reading of 137.6 decibels during a game against the Saints back in Dec., setting a new record in the Guinness Book of World Records. We are serious about our football in the PNW!

3 fresh mint leaves

1 to 2 tablespoon raw sugar (or equivalent simple syrup)

2 – 3 tablespoons fresh squeezed lime juice

4 to 6 fresh blueberries (washed)

1.5 shots Blueberry Infused Rum (see recipe below) If you don’t have time to make the infused rum. Regular light rum will do!

Seltzer water

Muddle sugar, lime juice together.

Add in mint and lightly bruise the leaves, but be sure not to over muddle them.

Top with rum.

Finish with seltzer water and ice.

Garnish with blueberries, mint leaves or the 12th Man Garnishes (instructions below) and these babes are ready to enjoy!

12th Man Mojito - by PLD

The flavor and color of the blueberries infuses the rum adding a subtle hint of fruit, making it choice addition to any cocktail recipe!

1 Bottle of your favorite light rum. I used Bacardi.

1 cup washed Blueberries.

1 glass bottle with secure lid.

Rinse blueberries and place in the bottom of the glass bottle.

Pour the entire bottle of rum into the blueberries and seal with fitted lid.

Place in a cool dark place and allow 1 week to sit.

I actually ended up using mine after 4 days, but you could already taste the flavor of the blueberries in the rum.

This garnish is great as a drink topper, but can also be used as a simple fruit skewer or to be served alongside snacks at a tailgating event this weekend.

The triangle flag was made in Photoshop using the colors and numbers that represent the 12th man flag. I simply cut the shapes out and threaded them through clear plastic cocktail skewers that I found at bevmo (starting them with a thumb tac).

Then I took slices of kiwi, and cut them into football shapes using my mini football cookie cutter.

I skewered 1 blueberry and 1 kiwi below the 12th man flag to create a garnish in green and blue to rep our hawks..

12th Man Garnish - PLD

I then placed one garnish on the top of each cocktail glass for the finishing touch.

12th Man Garnish - PLD

You could certainly have fun with these skewers, using alternate fruits and colors if there’s another team you’ll be celebrating this weekend.

Oh and for those of you who play fantasy football, I haven’t had the chance to mention yet that I played in an all girls Fantasy league this year and won the entire season! I actually did way better than my husband this year, finishing at 11-3, but with running-backs like Jamaal Charles and Eddie Lacy it was difficult to go wrong! I plan on doing a little bit of shopping this upcoming week with my much deserved winnings!

I have to say, It’s been a really great season and I hope you enjoy this cocktail as much as we do this weekend! Happy Blue Friday! Seahawks for the Superbowl!!

Bride’s Night Out – Recap

Back in September I had the pleasure of working with Dana Muchow from Spokane Bridal Blog for Bride’s Night Out Spokane, an event featuring top wedding vendors, loads of inspiration, products, designs and an evening of fun for many brides to be!

The Spokane Bridal Blog Marketplace showcase was setup within the event, which was coordinated by Alisa Lewis Event Designs and Attic Rentals, and intricately styled to capture the essence of a Parisian sidewalk market with a mix of vintage decor, furniture and products. Posh Little Designs was amongst many of the vendors who sold products within the showcase.

A variety of my cookie cutter sets, paper straws, baking cups and cupcake toppers were available for purchase, which you can see more of in the lovely images below.

Make: Pantone Fruit Smoothie

Radiant Orchid is the hue Pantone has chosen as color of the year for 2014. It’s a soft shade of purple that exudes happiness and joy and had me inspired at hello. I can already see this color making its way into weddings, fashion, decor and event design in the months ahead and I cannot wait to see how it’s used. I’m really looking forward to the pin-worthy imagery, DIY’s and trends that will be set this year with radiant orchid as the focal point. I also can’t wait to have some fun with the color myself, which is exactly how I’m kicking off 2014. After featuring a few heavy recipe posts late last year during the holiday season, I’m lightening things up with a fresh fruit smoothie, in shades of purple, influenced by none other than the Pantone color of the year.

Place all ingredients in a blender or magic bullet and blend away! Serve in a fancy glass and sip from a fabulous straw (these particular purple chevron straws are available in my Etsy shop).

For the blackberry and blueberry garnish, rinse them both and leaving them damp. Skewer one blackberry and one blueberry and place them in the freezer for 20 minutes. Garnish each glass.
